Egbetokun reaffirmed that the wellbeing of personnel is central to his policing vision and remains the backbone of operational readiness and national security.
Egbetokun highlighted the historic upgrade of the Nigeria Police Medical Services to a full-fledged Directorate in August 2025 as a strategic milestone.
This move aims to strengthen officer welfare, enhance medical capacity, and guarantee standardized healthcare delivery across all commands and formations.
He noted that the police currently boasts one of the most extensive medical networks on the African continent, comprising 164 hospitals, clinics, and medical posts that serve officers, their families, and surrounding communities.
The meeting’s highlight was the formal flag-off of the “Know Your Numbers” Campaign, a nationwide preventive health initiative approved by the IGP.
This campaign urges officers to routinely monitor vital health indicators to reduce avoidable morbidity and promote longevity within the Force.
These indicators include: blood pressure, blood sugar, pulse rate, and hepatitis/HIV status.
Egbetokun reiterated his resolve to entrenching a resilient, responsive, and professionally competent policing system, where the health and welfare of officers remain a core pillar of institutional strength.
In her presentation, the Force Medical Director, Nkechi Eze, the first Assistant Inspector-General of Police to head the Directorate, provided an overview of the Directorate’s expanded mandate in areas such as preventive medicine, trauma and emergency care, medical training, and national health response.
