Afriland Towers in Broad Street market located in Idumota Lagos State was engulfed by fire at 1:38pm on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
Our correspondent observed efforts by traders and buyers to rescue affected individuals from the incident before the swift response of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service crews from Ebute Elefun Fire Station and Sari Iganmu Fire Station at the scene.
Cause of fire
Our correspondent observed those affected in the incident were seeing on the floors of the towers finding an escape route. A man, yet-to-be identified passed out. However, efforts were carried out to resuscitate him.
According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire originated in the inverter room located in the basement of the building while smoke has spread across multiple floors and engulfed the structure.
“Evacuation of occupants is in progress, while firefighting operations has been concluded dousing the earlier panic before the arrival of the first responders,” the agency added.
