Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has congratulated celebrity chef Hilda Baci for setting another Guinness World Record, this time for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice.
In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, Mrs Tinubu praised the 28-year-old chef’s resilience and creativity, describing her global recognition as an inspiration to young Nigerians.
“Hilda, your passion, resilience, and creativity in showcasing your craft as a celebrity chef of one of Nigeria’s most loved dishes on the global stage is inspiring,” she said.
The First Lady added that Baci’s accomplishment demonstrated the ability of young Nigerian women to succeed internationally through hard work, determination, and innovation.
Baci first came to global prominence in 2023 when she cooked for more than 90 hours in Lagos, earning the Guinness World Record for the longest individual cooking marathon. That feat attracted widespread attention and earned her both national and international acclaim.
Her latest achievement, recorded on Saturday in Victoria Island, Lagos, involved preparing and serving 8,780 kilogrammes (19,356 lb 9 oz) of Nigerian-style jollof rice. The effort, carried out in partnership with food brand Gino, was officially confirmed by Guinness World Records on Monday.
Announcing the recognition, Guinness World Records posted on X: “New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”
Mrs Tinubu said Baci’s feat brought pride to Nigeria and reflected the potential of the nation’s youth when supported and encouraged. She expressed confidence that many more young Nigerians would continue to gain global visibility by daring to dream and pushing the boundaries of creativity.
The achievement has sparked widespread celebration both online and offline, with Nigerians at home and abroad commending Baci for once again placing the country in the international spotlight through her culinary skills.
