Gov Oyebanji commissions BOUESTI Senate Building, reaffirms commitment to education infrastructure

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to upgrading educational infrastructure to meet global standards. 

He made this pledge on Thursday in Ikere Ekiti while commissioning the newly constructed ultra-modern Senate Building at the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science, and Technology, Ikere Ekiti (BOUESTI). The building was built and donated by the university’s Chancellor, Chief Wole Olanipekun.  

The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including the Minister of Education, Olatunji Alausa; former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko; Secretary to the State Government, Habibat Adubiaro; Lanre Tejuoso; Chairman of BOUESTI’s Governing Council, Patrick Aina; and Vice-Chancellors of sister universities, among others.  

Governor Oyebanji emphasised the critical role of modern educational facilities in fostering an environment conducive to effective teaching and learning.

He stressed that a well-structured education system is essential for societal progress and development.  

“Our government is dedicated to ensuring that students in Ekiti State have access to world-class education and facilities. This is evident in the substantial improvements in the infrastructure of primary and secondary schools across the state,” Oyebanji stated.

The governor expressed profound gratitude to Olanipekun for his generosity and unwavering commitment to the development of education infrastructure in Ekiti. 

He described the former NBA President as a pillar of progress whose contributions have significantly impacted various sectors.  

“Chief Olanipekun’s dedication to community service sets a benchmark for others. I call on other prominent Ekiti indigenes to join hands in building a brighter future for our state. Collective efforts are essential for meaningful development,” Oyebanji remarked.  

Highlighting the significance of the new Senate Building, he added: “This structure is a testament to the development of BOUESTI and education in our state. As a government, we recognize the pivotal role of education in Ekiti’s overall development plan, particularly in human capital development—a core element of our shared prosperity agenda.”  

In his remarks, the Minister of Education, Alausa, commended Chief Olanipekun’s selfless contribution, describing it as a reflection of his commitment to national growth. 

Alausa reiterated the federal government’s focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education as a critical driver of the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at equipping Nigerian youths with the skills and innovative capacities necessary for global competitiveness.  

He stressed that transforming Nigeria’s education system remains a top priority to prepare young Nigerians for the challenges of the 21st century.  

Olanipekun, the donor and Chancellor of BOUESTI expressed satisfaction with contributing to the advancement of education in Ekiti.

He noted that the project represents his commitment to giving back to his community and supporting the university’s vision of academic excellence.  

“I expedited the construction of this Senate Building to honour my promise to Governor Oyebanji and to align with his administration’s efforts in education, human capital, and infrastructure development,” Olanipekun said.  

The newly inaugurated Senate Building stands as a milestone in BOUESTI’s journey and reflects a shared commitment to education as a cornerstone of development in Ekiti State.
