Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State has approved the promotion of 8,476 primary and junior secondary school teachers across the state’s 18 Local government areas.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the governor said the promotion was part of his administration’s first 100 days in office.
The Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (Edo-SUBEB), Onomen Goodness Briggs, described the move as a testament to the governor’s commitment to recognizing the dedication and hard work of teachers.

“Governor Okpebholo is ensuring that every teacher receives the recognition they deserve. By directing the release of these promotion letters, he is not only acknowledging their efforts but also taking a firm step towards enhancing the overall quality of education in Edo State,” Briggs said.

The promotion, covering the period from 2022 to January 2024, is expected to boost morale among teachers who have faced career stagnation due to administrative delays.
Stakeholders have welcomed the decision, noting that improved job satisfaction among educators will translate into better classroom performance and a more dynamic learning environment.
Briggs further emphasised that the governor’s proactive leadership is driving much-needed reforms in the state’s education sector.
“This bold action underscores Governor Okpebholo’s dedication to transforming education in Edo State. His resolve to address systemic challenges and deliver tangible results within his first 100 days in office is evident in this directive,” she added.
