Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has unveiled the ‘Action Plan on Durable Solutions’, an initiative aimed at facilitating the safe and sustainable return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes.
The New Daily Prime earlier reported that the governor, during a visit to the dry season farm project site along Gboko Road, Makurdi, announced the initiative.
Governor Alia described the initiative as a pivotal milestone in his administration’s journey toward securing lasting solutions for IDPs.

He further noted that, with the collective support of local and international partners, the initiative seeks not only to address displacement but to transform it into an opportunity for sustainable development.

“Already, lands have been generously donated by communities in Makurdi, Guma, Kwande, Gwer-West, Agatu, and Logo for relocation and farming, ensuring that our displaced population can rebuild their lives with dignity.
“This journey has been made possible through ongoing community dialogues, government initiatives, and partnerships with agencies such as the IOM, UNHCR, and the Federal Government. Notable projects include the construction of over 4,000 dignified shelters with access to essential services in Guma LGA”, said the governor.
He further announced that 10% of the 2025 State Budget had been allocated to ensuring the successful implementation of this Action Plan, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to building a future where no one is left behind.

He stated that, together, the state was creating a new narrative—one of peace, prosperity, and enduring hope for the people—while urging the Federal Government, UN agencies, international partners, and citizens to unite in making this vision a reality.
“I would like to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, UN agencies such as UNHCR, IOM, UNDP, the RC’s office, and other development partners for their support.”
