Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who is also the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Saturday’s forthcoming governorship election, has pledged to upgrade Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), to a fully-fledged university.
He assured that the institution would receive significant attention and increased funding for its subvention.
Governor Aiyedatiwa made this promise during his campaign tour of Owo Local Government on Monday. He was warmly received at the palace of the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, by traditional rulers, community leaders, and key stakeholders.
Expressing his appreciation for the support from the people of Owo, the governor described the town as his ‘second home’ and vowed to fulfill the expectations of the community.
He reiterated the centrality of peace and security to his administration and pledged to complete all projects initiated under the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s administration.
At the bustling Mobil Ground in Owo, Aiyedatiwa addressed thousands of enthusiastic supporters from neighboring communities such as Isuada, Ipele, and Usho.
The crowd, adorned with placards expressing solidarity, created a spirited atmosphere of unity and support for the governor’s re-election bid.
In his remarks, the governor thanked the people for their overwhelming turnout and urged them to channel their enthusiasm into votes on November 16, 2024.
“This week is a Lucky week,” he said, exuding confidence in his prospects for victory.
Speaking on behalf of the council area’s traditional rulers, Oba Ogunoye reaffirmed the people’s commitment to Aiyedatiwa’s candidacy, assuring him of their unwavering support.
“The people of Owo have made their choice, and we are resolved to vote en masse for Governor Aiyedatiwa as the next governor of Ondo State,” the monarch stated.
Oba Ogunoye observed that the campaign appeared almost ceremonial, given the traditional council’s unanimous endorsement of Aiyedatiwa to ensure continuity in governance.
Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami, speaking at the palace, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Aiyedatiwa for entrusting him with the responsibilities of Deputy and running mate.
He also commended the appointment of Omowunmi Isaac, another Owo indigene, as Commissioner for Finance.
Adelami underscored the profound significance of these gestures to the people of Owo, calling on them to reciprocate with their support by voting for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration is committed to the development of Owo and the entire state. He listens to the people, making him a leader who respects the needs of all and sundry,” Adelami added.
