Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced his involvement in launching a vital health initiative aimed at curbing the alarming rate of sudden deaths in Nigeria caused by hypertension and diabetes.
In a statement posted on his X page, the governor encouraged the citizens and residents to prioritise their health by participating in screenings for hypertension and diabetes.
“By taking this proactive step, we are not only protecting our well-being but also securing the future of our communities” Abiodun stated.
The program, which is a collaborative effort involving the Commissioners of Health from all 36 states, aims to screen at least 10 million Nigerians for these life-threatening conditions.
He wrote: “I was pleased to participate in the flag-off of a critical health initiative aimed at addressing the high rate of sudden deaths in Nigeria due to hypertension and diabetes. This program, a collaborative effort involving the Commissioners of Health across all 36 states, sets a target to screen a minimum of 10 million Nigerians for these life-threatening conditions.
“In setting an example, I had my vitals checked by our dedicated Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, at my office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. I urge all Ogun State citizens and residents to prioritise their health by getting screened for hypertension and diabetes. By taking this proactive step, we are safeguarding not only our well-being but also the future of our communities.”
