The Kwara State Government, under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is set to launch a free screening exercise for hypertension and diabetes across all 16 Local Government Areas of the state.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health’s Press Secretary, Falade Gbenga, the week-long exercise will run from October 28 to November 3.
The state Commissioner for Health, Amina Ahmed El-Imam, made this announcement during a press briefing at her office on Thursday.
She emphasised that the initiative aligns with Governor AbdulRazaq’s directive to provide free medical services, particularly targeting grassroots communities across Kwara.
El-Imam noted that previous medical outreach programs have greatly enhanced the health outcomes of residents, particularly those with limited or no access to healthcare facilities.

“This newly approved free hypertension and diabetes screening exercise is part of the current administration’s ongoing commitment to delivering quality healthcare services to Kwarans at large,” she stated.
The Commissioner further assured the public that trained medical experts will be available at the screening centers to offer necessary guidance, as well as affordable treatment options for any positive cases identified during the exercise.
“This is an initiative of the Nigeria Health Commissioner’s Forum, aimed at screening 10 million Nigerians, for two of the deadliest non-communicable diseases like hypertension and diabetes, across the 36 states of the federation, including Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. With this intervention, Kwara Project Ten Million’s target, is to reach at least 196,913 Kwara residence, at the end of the exercise.
“196,913 residence of kwara will be screened free of charge, at their nearest Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) Facilities in all the 193 wards, and in some selected secondary health centers across the 16 LGAs, Including some other selected locations across the state.
