Hon. Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso has tendered his resignation as special adviser to governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on political affairs, citing unresolved political disputes and anomalies within the ruling political movement.
Kwankwaso who announced his resignation in a notification dated Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, addressed to the Executive Governor of Kano State through the Secretary to the State Government.

In the letter, he said his decision followed “political disputes, chaos and anomalies that contravene the political ideologies of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.”
“I, Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso, wish to formally tender my resignation from the position of Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs, effective from Friday, 23rd January, 2026,” he stated
He said he had served the state for two years under the current administration before taking the decision to step aside.
Kwankwaso expressed appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve, noting that the experience had contributed to his political journey.
“I appreciate your efforts for appointing me to serve the state for the period of two years under your administration,” he said.
The former aide also referenced the influence of former Kano State Governor, Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, whom he described as his political mentor.
“It is important to recall the contributions of our political mentor, Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, for his role in establishing the Kwankwasiyya Movement for the benefit of the people of the state and the country at large,” he added.
Kwankwaso concluded by offering prayers for peace and stability in Kano State.
“I pray for the continued protection of my beloved state against danger, threats and any form of intimidation,” he said
