Former LG Administrator, three others killed in Zamfara

Tragedy struck Morai town in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Monday night, April 14, 2025, as armed bandits launched a deadly attack that claimed the lives of at least four residents, including a former local government sole administrator, Saminu Morai. Several other residents were reportedly abducted during the raid.

According to community sources, the assailants stormed the town late in the night, shooting sporadically and causing widespread panic. The coordinated assault, described by locals as “brutal and shocking,” left the town in a state of chaos.

“Bandits attacked Morai town in Talata Mafara, killed the former local government sole administrator and three others. Many people were kidnapped,” a resident told SaharaReporters under anonymity, citing fears for personal safety.

The victims were laid to rest on Tuesday morning in accordance with Islamic rites. The Emir of Talata Mafara and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area were both present at the funeral, signifying the gravity of the incident.

As of the time of filing this report, the Zamfara State Police Command has not issued an official statement on the attack. The exact number of kidnapped victims and the identity or strength of the armed group involved remain unknown.

Zamfara State has been plagued by persistent violence, with rural communities frequently targeted by criminal gangs referred to as bandits. These groups engage in killings, mass kidnappings, and looting, often with limited intervention from security forces.

Monday night’s attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents that underscore the deteriorating security situation in Zamfara. Residents continue to live in fear as authorities grapple with the growing menace of armed insurgency in Nigeria’s northwest.
