In a bid to enhance transparency and accountability within the public service, the Federal Ministry of Finance has inaugurated the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) Committee.
The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Lydia Jafiya, emphasised that the inauguration of the ACTU Committee is a pivotal step in the Ministry’s collective commitment to fostering integrity and exemplifies its steadfast dedication to ensuring that it remains a model of ethical conduct and good governance.
She underscored the importance of this initiative, stressing that the fight against corruption is not solely the responsibility of ACTU but requires the active involvement of every staff member within the Ministry.

Mrs Jafiya urged all personnel to fully embrace this initiative, support the Committee’s work, and demonstrate an unwavering commitment to ethical behaviour in every aspect of their duties.

The Permanent Secretary assured the Committee of her unwavering support and collaboration to help achieve its objectives.
She further outlined that the ACTU Committee’s mandate includes promoting a culture of transparency, upholding the highest standards of accountability, and ensuring that the principles of the rule of law guide every action within the Ministry.
However, Musa Aliyu, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) explained that ACTU is a government-approved initiative designed to serve as an internal mechanism for preventing corruption within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
He noted that this initiative aligns with global best practices aimed at strengthening institutions and advancing good governance in the fight against corruption.
He also remarked that the Ministry of Finance has committed to managing the nation’s finances in an open, transparent, accountable, and efficient manner while delivering on the country’s development priorities.
Commending the Permanent Secretary for her leadership in ensuring the successful inauguration and induction of the ACTU Committee, Mr Aliyu reiterated that ACTU would play a crucial role in realising the country’s development goals.
Furthermore, the Ministry’s Director of Special Duties, Egundebi Oluwayemisi, congratulated the newly inaugurated members of the ACTU Committee, emphasising that the success of ACTU depends on the active engagement and support of every staff member in the Ministry.

Speaking on behalf of the Committee members, the ACTU Chairman, Abubakar Othman, assured that the ACTU Committee would prioritise the sensitization of staff to strengthen internal control mechanisms and promote a culture of integrity, accountability, and transparency in the conduct of government business.
The inauguration of the ACTU Committee represents a major milestone in the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to fostering transparency and accountability.
