The Federal Government (FG) has directed all foreigners who have overstayed their visas in Nigeria to regularise their immigration status before August 1, 2025, or face stiff penalties.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) disclosed this in a statement posted on its X page yesterday.
NOA said the new policy does not compel affected individuals to seek Nigerian citizenship but provides them with a temporary opportunity to update their status through a newly introduced online portal.

The agency added that the initiative is part of the government’s broader immigration reforms aimed at addressing visa overstays more systematically and humanely, without resorting to immediate deportation.
The agency warned that once the grace period ends on July 31, strict penalties would be enforced, including daily fines and possible bans from re-entering the country.
NOA urged affected foreigners to take advantage of the window to avoid sanctions.
