Nigeria’s Federal Government (FG) has opened the door for private sector management of Port Harcourt International Airport, in what officials describe as a step toward transforming the aviation sector into a driver of economic growth.
Announcing the decision after the FEC meeting, says Rivers State Television’s (RSTV) report on Friday, the Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo said the privatisation initiative would improve efficiency and attract fresh investments to upgrade airport facilities in line with international standards.

At the same meeting, President Tinubu directed an immediate halt to the sale or transfer of any property owned by FAAN to prevent asset mismanagement.
Presidential aides say the reforms reflect the administration’s broader economic strategy to modernise infrastructure and enhance service delivery.
Experts have welcomed the development, though unions warn that the government must protect workers’ interests and ensure transparency throughout the process.
