Abuja, 4 March 2026 – The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday adjourned the alleged terrorism trial of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, until 10 March 2026.
The adjournment followed an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, who requested additional time to allow the prosecution to thoroughly examine the case file.
Oyedepo informed the court that the matter had recently been transferred from the Department of State Services to the Department of Public Prosecutions, making it necessary for him to familiarise himself with the facts of the case.
Counsel for the defendants, Mr Adedayo Adedeji, did not oppose the adjournment. He, however, urged the court to strike out the case should the prosecution fail to commence trial on the next scheduled date, citing what he described as a lack of diligent prosecution.
Presiding over the matter, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the adjournment and directed the prosecution to open its case on 10 March 2026.
The case has attracted significant attention due to Malami’s former position as Attorney-General and the serious nature of the charges.
More details will follow as the trial progresses.
