The Association of Resident Doctors under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD-FCTA) has announced the suspension of its indefinite strike action, with members expected to return to work on Monday, 22 September 2025, by 8:00 a.m.
The decision was confirmed by the President of ARD-FCTA, Dr George Ebong, in a statement to DAILY POST on Friday.
Dr Ebong explained that the move followed the intervention of the Nigerian Senate Committee on Federal Territory Area Councils & Ancillary Matters, and was also taken out of respect for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
“The Senate intervened. Even though none of our demands have been met yet, they assured us that they will talk to the minister,” he said.
“We hope the minister will listen to us, because we respect him.”
Despite the strike suspension, Dr Ebong emphasised that the underlying grievances remain unresolved as of the time of filing this report.
The resident doctors had embarked on an indefinite strike on Monday, citing poor working conditions, inadequate remuneration, and other longstanding demands. The industrial action disrupted healthcare services in several government hospitals and clinics across the FCT.
The ARD-FCTA has urged the government to address their concerns promptly, warning that failure to take concrete action may lead to a resumption of industrial action.
With the suspension now in effect, normal medical services are expected to resume across government health facilities in Abuja starting Monday.
