The Enugu State Commissioner of Police (CP), Kanayo Uzuegbu, has urged his team to investigate a viral audio recording featuring his photograph allegedly sharing new communication rules for WhatsApp chats and calls, identify the sources, and apprehend the initiators.

The police chief described the content as “misleading audio.”

The police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement dated October 31, said, “The Enugu State Police Command is aware of a viral audio recording featuring the photograph of the Commissioner of Police, purportedly sharing new communication rules for WhatsApp chats and calls. The Command strongly condemns this audio, labelling it as misleading and malicious.”

Therefore, Ndukwe urged the public to disregard such audio as it does not represent any official communication from the Command, adding that WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is an organization that would not disseminate information using third-party sources.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ndukwe noted that “It is essential to note that WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is a reputable international organization that would not use such third-party sources to announce changes to its services.”

To address this concern, he said CP Uzuegbu frowns at such an act, describing the information as false, stating that “The Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has expressed concern over the misuse of his image in spreading this false information. In response, he has ordered a thorough, intelligence-led investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible for creating and circulating the audio.”
