Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has urged Nigerian youth to cultivate a mindset of focus, perseverance, and purpose, stressing that there are no shortcuts to achieving success.
Mr Sanwo-Olu, who spoke during an interactive session with the ‘Class 2025 Scholars’ of the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) urged the youth to view challenges as opportunities for growth rather than grounds for complaint.
The NHEF held at the Banquet Hall, Lagos House, Ikeja was led by the Foundation’s Vice Chairman, Ifeoma Nwokorie.

The governor, who was represented by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, stressed that true success hinges on prioritising the right objectives, seizing available opportunities, and seeking ways to contribute positively to society.
He advised the scholars to diligently develop themselves to stand out in their chosen professions.
“If you want to achieve things, start by building your mind. Success is about focusing on the right things, persevering, and understanding that there is no shortcut to success,” the governor stated.
He added that youth must be purposeful and passionate about achieving their dreams.
Mr Sanwo-Olu further stated that education is about acquiring knowledge, and so, youth must always strive to acquire the right knowledge and information that will be very useful for their development and growth.
Mr Sanwo-Olu further highlighted the critical role of mentorship in guiding individuals toward personal development and prosperity.
He advised that Nigeria should evolve from being a nation of complainants to one where citizens actively identify and leverage opportunities for their own benefit and the collective good of society.
However, Ms Nwokorie explained that the foundation’s visit aimed to provide the ‘Class 2025 Scholars’ with firsthand insight into how governance and policy influence individuals and national progress.
She lauded the state government’s commitment to youth leadership and advancements in governance, particularly through initiatives like the Lateef Jakande Academy, noting its alignment with NHEF’s vision of nurturing world-class leaders.

Ms Nwokorie elaborated that the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation, established in 2004 by John D. and Kathy T. MacArthur Foundation, is dedicated to raising awareness about the pivotal role of higher education in shaping youth and advancing national development.
She commended the state government for its ongoing support for youth development initiatives within Lagos.
