The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on residents to pray for the nation’s capital and Nigeria as they celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
Wike, in a statement signed in Abuja, congratulated the Muslim community for completing the Ramadan fast and urged everyone to maintain peace as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
He described the holy month of Ramadan as a time for “spiritual renewal and self-reflection”.
Wike encouraged residents to continue practicing the values of compassion and forgiveness.
He noted that the way people shared with one another during the fast showed that Abuja remains a centre of unity and harmony.
Wike also mentioned the upcoming political activities in the country. He promised that the FCT Administration would provide a safe and orderly environment for all political events.
He specifically asked all residents, no matter their tribe or political party, to follow the peaceful example of the Muslim community during this season.
Wike praised President Bola Tinubu for his leadership, stating it has improved the lives of people in the FCT and made the city more secure.
He asked the public to keep praying for Tinubu and the success of the nation.
Wike maintained, “I urge all residents, regardless of political affiliation, gender or tribe, to take a cue from the Muslim Ummah and maintain peaceful conduct throughout the year while praying for the FCT and the nation as a whole at this period.”
To ensure a safe holiday, Wike assured the public that security agencies are working.
He told residents to celebrate without any fear because the government is committed to protecting lives and property.
Wike wished all Muslims a happy celebration, praying for a more prosperous FCT.
