Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 10 persons over alleged involvement in illegal mining activities along the Ilorin–Ogbomosho axis.
The arrests were carried out on Sunday, February 1, 2026, following credible intelligence on unlawful mineral excavation and transportation across parts of Kwara and Oyo states.

Those arrested include nine truck drivers and one escort. They were intercepted during a well-coordinated sting operation by EFCC operatives.
Solid minerals recovered from the suspects include lithium, tin, and lepidolite. Investigations revealed that the suspects did not possess the requisite licences, permits, or regulatory approvals to engage in mining or mineral transportation.
Also recovered were trucks loaded with the illegally mined minerals.
The EFCC said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
