Award-winning singer Davido expresses disappointment over Edo State governorship election results
Award-winning singer Davido has expressed his disappointment over the outcome of the recently concluded Edo State governorship election.
Earlier, The New Daily Prime reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, as the winner of Saturday’s election.
Mr. Okpebholo polled 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the People Democratic Party (PDP), who received 247,655 votes.
In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, the ‘Timeless’ hitmaker criticized INEC for their unprofessional handling of the election.
He added that the commission should be ashamed of its conduct during the poll.
Davido, 31, also referenced INEC’s unprofessionalism in the 2022 Osun State governorship election, which his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, won.
According to him, INEC only delivered a fair outcome in Osun State after he repeatedly called them out for their poor performance during the election.
He tweeted: “My mum is from Edo, for those wondering why I’m interested in the Election… but we as Nigerians should be concerned sha.. @inecnigeria shame on you! I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun! It’s really bad. God help us.”
