The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, has called for stronger media partnerships to help realise the ministry’s welfare vision.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to his office by the North Central Media Forum (NCMF) led by its president, Abubakar Angara, he emphasised that effective collaboration with the press is vital to advancing public interest and national development
Doro urged the group to partner with the ministry to promote its activities and ensure accountability to the Nigerians. He described his ministry as welfarist in nature, focused on the “people’s business,” with a core client base of Nigerians on the lower end of the economic ladder, the struggling and the vulnerable.
“Our vision is to ensure that we make hope a reality for everyone in the category of people that we serve. We want to make sure that everyone is rich. We’re able to help them create a path for them, for self-sufficiency, self-reliance, and independence. Those who are suffering, we alleviate that. Those who are in crisis, we reach out to them.

“Those who are in poverty, we’re able to help them create a path for them, for self-sufficiency, self-reliance, and independence. We want every citizen to contribute to national growth and national rebirth. The people that need help to be able to achieve that, our ministry is there to offer that help to them,” Doro said.

Unity and accountability
Furthermore, the minister stressed the importance of geopolitical unity, noting that the North Central region must collectively unite to benefit from the Nigerian entity.
He commended the NCMF for its diverse composition and pledged to look into the specific points raised by the group, expressing a strong desire to collaborate on promoting the ministry’s work.
“As a leader in the North Central, I think it’s important we can come together this way, and that we can. The North Central has a lot to offer, and unless we come together, I can see from your composition here that many states are represented within the North Central. We need that, because in Nigeria today, geopolitics is very important.
“Unless we collectively unite to stand up for ourselves, it becomes difficult to benefit from Nigeria as a nation. With that said, you are doing a good job. I lead a ministry whose mandate is welfare in nature — one that works directly for the people. The individuals we serve are Nigerians at the lower rungs of the economic ladder, those who are struggling,” he added.
He vowed that every penny spent would be accounted for, as the ministry holds its position on behalf of the citizens.
“It’s important for people to know what we’re doing, and we are accountable to the people”, the minister added.
Angara congratulated Doro and stated that his appointment was a source of pride for the entire North Central region and a recognition of his competence. He affirmed the forum’s mandate to promote the achievements of North Central leaders, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.
He further stated that NCMF’s priority is the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda and President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
He used the opportunity to outline the aims and objectives of the forum such as, helping to promote the ministry’s ongoing work across digital and traditional media, contributing to any ministry initiatives, collaborating on a door-to-door campaign for Tinubu’s re-election bid and connecting the minister with pro-North Central leaders.
He also requested that one of its members be attached to the minister’s office media unit for effective and timely reportage of his activities.
