Davido emphasises role of effective leadership in Nigeria, Africa’s progress

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has stressed the vital importance of strong, visionary leadership in propelling Nigeria and Africa to new heights. In an interview with Elevate Africa published on Thursday, December 6, via YouTube, the internationally acclaimed artist shared his thoughts on Nigeria’s potential for growth, focusing on the need for the right leaders to unlock the nation’s true capabilities.

“We can’t go forward without…we need the best leaders now first, that’s the most important thing,” Davido remarked, underscoring his belief that effective leadership is essential to overcoming Nigeria’s challenges.

While acknowledging the remarkable resilience and adaptability of Nigerians, Davido pointed out that the lack of visionary leadership has hindered the country’s progress. He highlighted the immense potential the nation holds if it is guided by leaders who can inspire and unite the people towards a common goal.

Reflecting on the question of Africa’s current position and where the continent should be, Davido praised the tenacity of Nigerians, emphasising their ability to thrive in even the most challenging environments.

“If you can survive in Lagos or you can survive in Nigeria, you can survive anywhere. I feel like we’re survivors; we’re strong-willed people,” he said.

The artist also noted the global reach of Nigerians, citing the widespread presence of Nigerian communities around the world as proof of the nation’s resilience and influence.

“Nigeria, if you go anywhere in the world, everybody has Nigerian friends. Whether you’re Chinese or…you have Nigerian friends everywhere in the world. I fly to do shows, Nigerian restaurants are there, and Nigerian communities are there. It just shows that we’re a force,” he explained.

However, Davido pointed out that despite this global presence, Nigeria’s potential for leadership on the world stage remains untapped due to a lack of effective governance.

He firmly believes that with the right leadership in place, Nigeria’s future is boundless.

“I just feel the only thing is just missing is just the right leaders to lead us. Once we get that right, I don’t think there’s anything that will stop us,” he concluded.

Davido’s words serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of good governance in shaping the future of not just Nigeria, but the entire African continent.
