Dangote Petroleum Refinery has called on Nigerians to report any MRS Oil Nigeria Plc filling station selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, above the approved pump price of ₦739 per litre, as it intensifies efforts to stabilise the country’s downstream oil sector.
In a statement released on Sunday, the refinery announced the commencement of nationwide petrol sales at ₦739 per litre, a move it said is aimed at easing the financial burden on consumers and curbing persistent fuel price volatility.
The product is being distributed exclusively through more than 2,000 MRS filling stations across Nigeria, backed by a guaranteed daily supply of 50 million litres.
According to the refinery, the price adjustment is part of a broader strategy to ensure affordable access to locally refined fuel while reducing the country’s dependence on imported petroleum products. The company noted that seasonal fuel scarcity, often experienced during festive periods, has historically driven price hikes and supply disruptions, which it hopes to address through consistent distribution.
Dangote Refinery praised MRS Oil Nigeria Plc and other compliant marketers for what it described as “demonstrating patriotism” by adhering strictly to the new pump price. It encouraged other fuel marketers to patronise its products, stating that wider participation would help extend the benefits of reduced prices to more Nigerians across the country.
The refinery also issued a strong warning against any attempts by marketers to create artificial scarcity or inflate fuel prices for profit. Such actions, it said, are “unpatriotic” and undermine national efforts to stabilise the energy market. It urged regulatory authorities to take firm action against violators to protect consumers and ensure fair pricing.
In a direct appeal to the public, Dangote Refinery encouraged Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid purchasing petrol at inflated prices when locally refined fuel is available at the approved rate. Members of the public were specifically asked to report any MRS filling station selling PMS above ₦739 per litre by calling the dedicated hotline: 0800 123 5264.
Industry analysts say the refinery’s intervention could mark a significant shift in Nigeria’s fuel supply dynamics, particularly as local refining capacity increases.
With the Dangote Refinery positioned as a major supplier, consistent pricing and availability could help restore confidence in the downstream sector and provide long-term relief for consumers grappling with rising living costs.
As enforcement and public cooperation increase, stakeholders will be watching closely to see whether the initiative succeeds in delivering stable, affordable fuel nationwide.
