Khamis Musa Darazo, a staunch supporter of President Bola Tinubu and member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged the Presidency and the party’s national leadership to take urgent action to prevent key figures from defecting, amid reports that Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami may be considering leaving the party.
Darazo expressed serious concern over the potential exit of the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, warning that such a move would be a significant political setback for the APC, particularly in northern Nigeria and across the country at large.
“Professor Pantami is not just a politician; he is an intellectual, reformer, and bridge-builder who has used knowledge, faith, and integrity to promote good governance and inspire young Nigerians,” Darazo said.
The APC chieftain emphasised Pantami’s impact during his time as a minister in the Buhari administration, citing major strides in digital innovation, entrepreneurship development, and job creation within the communications sector.
He further noted that losing Pantami would not only damage the party’s intellectual and moral image but also risk alienating the youth demographic that looks up to the former minister as a symbol of integrity and visionary leadership.
Darazo also revealed that several other high-profile APC figures were contemplating defection, underscoring the urgent need for intervention by party leadership.
“The APC’s strength lies in unity, inclusion, and visionary leadership,” he stated. “Every loyal member matters — especially someone like Professor Pantami, whose influence goes beyond party lines.”
He called on the Presidency and APC leaders to act swiftly to reassure discontented members and reinforce confidence in the party’s direction.
