As the local government election gets underway in Rivers State, suspected arsonists, in the early hours of Saturday, detonated explosives at the state secretariat of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
A short video clip trending on social media platforms showed that the main gate and the security post of the APC secretariat and some parts of the building were damaged by the explosive, which was suspected to be dynamites.
A prominent APC bigwig, Chief Tony Okocha has accused supporters of the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara of the attack on the secretariat.
He said, “At the wee hours of Saturday, pro-Fubara civilian soldiers detonated dynamites at our office. The second attempt to set it ablaze was foiled as security men at the gate quickly extinguished the fire.”
Okocha’s faction of the APC had on Friday, announced its withdrawal from the election, citing legal reasons.
