Brazil’s Vice President, Geraldo Alckmin, has arrived in Nigeria to begin the Second Session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM), aimed at deepening bilateral relations and unlocking multi-billion-dollar trade agreements between the two countries.
Alckmin, accompanied by his wife, Maria Lúcia Alckmin, landed at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, where senior Nigerian officials welcomed the Brazilian delegation.

Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, led the reception alongside the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, among other top government representatives.
Speaking at the airport, Senator Hadejia described the visit as a ‘pivotal moment’ in Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing the importance of strengthening South-South cooperation.
“This dialogue mechanism represents our commitment to leveraging South-South partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to our citizens,” he said.
Hadejia noted that Brazil’s expertise in agribusiness, energy transition, and industrial growth closely aligned with Nigeria’s development priorities under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The three-day summit is expected to culminate in the signing of over 30 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering critical areas such as defence cooperation, agricultural technology transfer, energy collaboration, and cultural exchange programmes.

The high-level talks mark a significant step in Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic engagement with Brazil and are anticipated to yield major policy and investment breakthroughs.
