Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, on Sunday expressed his gratitude to the citizens for their patience regarding the ongoing blackout in the state.
Through a statement on his X page, he detailed the state government’s collaborative efforts with the Transmission Company of Nigeria to repair the vandalised towers in Ahoada.
He noted that the prolonged darkness had accelerated the state’s commitment to completing its independent power plant project, which is nearing realization.
Governor Diri said this during the state’s 13th annual thanksgiving ceremony held at the Ecumenical Centre in Igbogene, Yenagoa.
He said: “My message was very clear- there are reasons to appreciate God, particularly for the sustained peace and security across the eight Local Government Areas of the State as well as to thank God for our re-election for a second term in office.
“I wish to acknowledge the presence of our father, former President Goodluck Jonathan, represented by his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, the immediate past Governor, Seriake Dickson, the man behind the Thanksgiving vision, our sister and daughter, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, the Head of Service of the Federation, our son and Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, former military administrators of the state, Col. Edor Obi (rtd) and Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (rtd).
“Also in attendance were two former governors of Rivers State, King Alfred Diete-Spiff and Chief Rufus Ada-George, my friends from the National Assembly, serving and non-serving members, former Managing Director of NDDC, Chief Ndutimi Alaibe.
“The long list also included former Deputy Governors Peremobowei Ebebi and Werinipre Seibarugu, religious leaders, chairman of the state’s traditional rulers council, King Bubaraye Dakolo, other royal fathers and my younger brother, music star, Inetimi Odon ‘Timaya’. On behalf of my Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, and the Legislative and Judicial arms, I wish to thank all our citizens who joined us today for Thanksgiving. Thank you to Apostle David Zilly-Aggrey of the Royal House of Grace and other men of God for their participation.
