Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Thursday, presented a ₦465.855 billion budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly.
The proposed budget represents an 18 percent increase from the 2024 appropriation and is aimed at addressing ongoing reforms and rising inflationary trends impacting various sectors across the country.
Governor Mohammed highlighted that the increase in the 2025 budget reflects the state’s response to economic challenges. He also noted that 80 percent of the 2024 budget had been implemented, underscoring the state’s commitment to delivering on its promises.
The governor outlined several key sector allocations in the budget, with ₦166.938 billion earmarked for the social sector, focusing on education, healthcare, and welfare.
Additionally, the justice sector was allocated ₦9.578 billion, with plans to complete ongoing projects while initiating new ones to address pressing needs.
He further emphasised that the budget would prioritize the implementation of the new minimum wage, the contributory pension scheme, and adherence to established budgetary guidelines.
Public hearings across the state’s three senatorial zones were conducted to incorporate stakeholder input, ensuring the inclusion of grassroots needs in the planning process.
Governor Mohammed urged the state assembly to expedite the passage of the budget to ensure the timely implementation of its programs and projects.
In response, Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman, commended the governor for the timely submission of the budget proposal and assured him of swift consideration and approval to ensure the state’s continued development.
