The Rivers State Police Command has recorded a significant success in its fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes with the arrest of an armed suspect believed to be a key player in several abduction operations across the state.
The suspect, identified as Mohammed Ibrahim, a 30-year-old native of Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State, was arrested on 10 January, 2026, at about 7:46pm by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit (ACU), Emohua Annex, following actionable intelligence.
Police sources disclosed that Ibrahim had allegedly been terrorising commuters and residents along the Port Harcourt International Airport Road, Omagwa axis.
He was intercepted while allegedly making plans to move his weapons and operational base to the Agbonchia/Oyigbo Road area in Eleme Local Government Area (LGA).
A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle bearing breach number 2125, as well as two magazines loaded with a total of 36 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm live ammunition, says the Force spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko on Thursday.
During initial questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed to leading a kidnapping syndicate responsible for multiple ransom-driven abductions within Rivers State.
The suspect and recovered exhibits are currently in police custody, while investigations continue to track down other members of the gang and recover additional weapons.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism and swift response, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Olugbenga Adepoju, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring public safety.
He urged residents to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information, assuring that there would be no safe haven for criminal elements in the state.
The Police Command reiterated its determination to sustain the momentum against kidnapping and violent crimes in Rivers State.
