The Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), comprising governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is holding a significant strategic meeting in Lagos today.
Hosted by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the session is taking place at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island later in the day.
The gathering coincides with President Bola Tinubu’s presence in Lagos for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, before his return to Abuja.
As of March 2026, the APC maintains a commanding position in Nigerian politics, controlling 31 of the country’s 36 governorships.
This dominance has been bolstered in recent months by a series of defections from opposition parties to the ruling party, further consolidating its influence nationwide.
The PGF meeting is expected to centre on key priorities, including aligning state-level governance initiatives with the federal government’s policy direction under President Tinubu.
Discussions will also focus on enhancing coordination among APC-controlled states to promote unified approaches to development, security, and economic challenges.
The forum, chaired by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, last convened in Lagos in December 2025 at the same venue. That session addressed critical national issues, including governance, development, and the country’s security landscape.
In a communiqué issued afterwards, the governors expressed confidence in Nigeria’s unity, stability, and prospects for long-term prosperity.

They praised President Tinubu for fostering improved collaboration between federal, state, and local security structures, alongside the contributions of security agencies and community volunteers in combating insecurity.
Today’s deliberations come amid ongoing preparations for the APC’s internal processes, including its forthcoming national convention.
With the party’s strong position, the meeting underscores efforts to sustain momentum and reinforce progressive governance across Nigeria’s states.
