A leading member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on religious, community, and political leaders across Nigeria to unite behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the collective fight against terrorism and insecurity.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, the former lawmaker emphasised that Nigeria is at a critical juncture and that citizens must rise above political and religious divisions to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty.
According to Oyintiloye, the persistent security challenges—ranging from terrorism to banditry—did not begin with the Tinubu administration but have evolved over many years. He argued that what Nigeria needs now is unity of purpose, not blame or division.
“We must come together and rally behind the President at this period. Our religious or political affiliations are irrelevant at this time. What we need is oneness and unity to protect the sovereignty of our dear country,” he said.
Oyintiloye also reacted to a reported threat by former United States President Donald Trump to deploy American military forces to Nigeria over alleged killings of Christians. He described the statement as deeply concerning and urged Nigerians to close ranks in defence of their nation’s dignity.
While appreciating the concerns expressed by the international community, particularly the United States, Oyintiloye stressed that what Nigeria requires is not foreign troops but intelligence sharing and logistical support.
“Sharing of intelligence information and US military equipment support to fight insecurity in the country would go a long way in helping Nigeria to tackle and defeat the menace of insecurity,” he stated.
The APC stalwart cautioned opposition figures and public commentators to be mindful of their remarks at this delicate period, warning that divisive rhetoric could further destabilise the country. “This is not a time to play opposition politics,” he said. “Whatever happens in Nigeria will affect everyone. Our leaders will come and go, but the nation must endure.”
Oyintiloye further urged the newly appointed service chiefs to justify the trust placed in them by President Tinubu, reminding them that the country is looking to them for results. “They must not betray the confidence reposed in them. They have to work diligently to defeat the terrorists and justify their appointment at this critical time,” he added.
Concluding his remarks, Oyintiloye reiterated that Nigeria possesses the capacity to overcome its security challenges if all stakeholders—political, religious, and traditional, work together in good faith. He cautioned that foreign military intervention could worsen the situation, advocating instead for internal collaboration and strategic partnerships.
“What Tinubu needs at this time is the support of all Nigerians. “With unity, patriotism, and cooperation, we can secure the peace and stability our country desperately needs,” he said.
