A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Engineer Olabode Jones Ajimijere, has called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Commissioner of Police and heads of other security agencies in the state to urgently ensure the release of an abducted Ilaje prince, Emorioloye Owolemi.
Ajimijere appealed in a letter addressed to the governor and security chiefs, a copy of which NEW DAILY PRIME obtained on Sunday. The APC stalwart described the incident as disturbing and warned that it poses a serious threat to public safety and confidence in the state’s security architecture.
Prince Owolemi, an activist and the Publicity Secretary of the Ilaje Leadership Forum, was reportedly abducted by yet-to-be-identified gunmen at his residence in Ilaje on Thursday. As of the time of filing this report on Sunday, the victim was said to still be in captivity, sparking growing concern among community members and political stakeholders.
In his letter, Ajimijere strongly condemned the abduction, describing it as a criminal act that must not be allowed to go unpunished. He urged Governor Aiyedatiwa to take immediate and decisive steps to ensure the safe and unconditional release of the Ilaje prince.
“The protection of lives and property must remain a top priority of government and security institutions,” Ajimijere stated. He stressed that incidents of kidnapping not only endanger innocent citizens but also undermine public trust in government and law enforcement agencies.
The APC chieftain also called on the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, and other relevant security agencies to intensify coordinated efforts aimed at rescuing the victim and apprehending those responsible for the abduction.
According to Ajimijere, the swift resolution of the case would send a strong signal that the state government is committed to tackling criminal activities and ensuring the safety of residents across Ondo State.
“I urge the Commissioner of Police, the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, and other relevant security agencies to act fast and decisively,” he said. “There is an urgent need for coordinated action to curb criminal activities and restore public confidence in the state’s security framework.”
The abduction has reportedly generated anxiety within Ilaje communities, with residents calling for increased security presence and proactive measures to prevent a recurrence. Observers say the incident highlights the broader security challenges confronting parts of the state and the need for sustained collaboration between government authorities and security agencies.
As pressure mounts on the state government, residents and stakeholders are hoping for the safe return of Prince Owolemi and a thorough investigation that will bring the perpetrators to justice.
