In a move aimed at restoring peace to the Akungba Akoko community, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has installed His Royal Majesty, Oba Isiaka Oseni Adu, as the new Alale of Akungba, ending a long-standing chieftaincy dispute.
The ceremony, which took place on Saturday followed years of legal battles that reached the highest courts.
Aiyedatiwa stated that the government’s decision was based on court rulings that favored Oba Adu’s claim to the throne.

He emphasised that the administration remained neutral in the chieftaincy matter and acted to uphold justice and fairness.
“It is only logical to allow His Royal Majesty, Oba Isiaka Oseni Adu, who obtained a favorable judgment at all levels of the judicial processes, to enjoy the benefits of his legal victory,” the governor said.
He urged the other faction, the Olugbade Ruling House, to be patient, explaining that the action was taken for the greater good of peace and tranquility in the community.
The governor congratulated the new monarch and reminded him of his responsibility to be a leader to everyone in the community, not just his supporters.
He advised Oba Adu to use his new position to foster unity and prevent division.
Additionally, Aiyedatiwa highlighted his administration’s developmental projects in the region, including the construction of a dual carriageway on the Akungba–Ikare road and ongoing flood control measures.
He reiterated a government directive for traders along the road to relocate to the Atiba Market for their safety.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to protecting lives and property through the strengthening of the Amotekun Corps and other security agencies.
Also, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, praised the governor’s respect for due process in resolving the dispute.
Similarly, Akoko South West Local Government Chairman, Ayo Ajana, described the installation as a new chapter for the community.
However, Oba Adu expressed his profound gratitude to God and to the state government for honoring the Supreme Court judgment.

He described the occasion as historic, noting that his family’s journey to the throne began in 1951.
He pledged to prioritise the unity and development of Akungba Akoko during his reign.
