The Governing Council of the University of Abuja, under the chairmanship of Air Vice-Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (retd), has approved the appointment of Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as the 7th Substantive vice-chancellor of the university.
The appointment was announced during the 77th Extraordinary Meeting of Council on Tuesday.
According to a statement by Acting Director, Information and University Relations, Dr Habib Yakoob, the appointment, which takes effect on January 1, 2025, is for a non-renewable five-year tenure.
He said Maikudi emerged as the best among 10 shortlisted candidates and interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board of the University, in line with the extant regulations governing the process.

Aisha Sani Maikudi is a Nigerian professor of international law and the current acting vice chancellor of the University of Abuja.
She was appointed as acting vice chancellor following the end of professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah’s tenure and resumed office on 30 June 2024.
Early life and education
Aisha was born on 31 January 1983 in Zaria. She obtained her Secondary School Certificate from Queens College in Lagos in 1999. She obtained her Bachelor of Law degree in 2004 from the University of Reading, UK, and she obtained her Master of Laws degree (LLM) from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2005. In 2015, she obtained her Doctor of Philosophy in International Law from the University of Abuja and became a professor in 2022.
Career
Aisha joined the University of Abuja in September 2008 as a Lecturer II. In 2014, she was appointed as Head of the Department of Faculty of Law in 2014, in 2018, she became the Deputy Dean and also the pioneer Director University of Abuja. In 2024, she was appointed as the Vice Chancellor.

She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Federation of Women Lawyers.
