Nigeria’s largest airline, Air Peace, has announced the creation of 1,000 new job opportunities for young graduates through its 2025/2026 Graduate Trainee Programme, following the Federal Government’s decision to suspend the 4% Free on Board (FOB) levy on imported goods.
The levy, which sparked widespread criticism from manufacturers, importers, and customs agents, was recently suspended by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun. The Minister admitted that the policy, initially introduced by the Nigeria Customs Service, posed risks to economic stability, trade competitiveness, and the country’s overall business climate.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Air Peace Chairman, Allen Onyema, praised President Bola Tinubu and Minister Edun for their responsiveness to industry concerns. He described the suspension as a “lifeline” for the aviation sector.
“This suspension removes a heavy burden that could have crippled airlines and triggered massive job losses. In turn, Air Peace is reciprocating this kind gesture by creating 1,000 fresh graduate jobs for young Nigerians,” Onyema said.
He added that the move highlights the positive impact of effective collaboration between government and the private sector, calling for further supportive policies to strengthen the aviation industry.
“If further supportive measures like this come from the Federal Government, I can assure you that thousands more jobs will be created in the aviation sector. This is how partnerships can transform a nation,” he added.
The Air Peace Graduate Trainee Programme is designed to equip young Nigerian graduates with practical experience, mentorship, and essential skills for careers in aviation and related industries. Onyema described the programme as a “strategic pipeline” for developing a competent and future-ready workforce.
