To improve the welfare of its workers, the Akwa Ibom State Government has announced N80,000 as the new minimum wage.
In a document made available to journalists on Wednesday, Governor Umo Eno said that for effective policy implementation, the government has established an implementation committee.
He added that the committee is expected to deliver its report within one month.
“To ensure a smooth rollout of this policy, the governor has also constituted an implementation committee, which has been given one month to submit its report on how the wage increase will be executed,” Hon. Ini Ememobong stated in the signed document.
Reflecting on the government’s commitment, Governor Eno reiterated that this development aims to improve the welfare of the state’s workforce.
The statement disclosed that the committee will be chaired by the Head of the Civil Service.
The members of the committee include: Chairman, Local Government Service Commission; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance; Permanent Secretary, Department of Establishments; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning; Permanent Secretary/Solicitor General, Ministry of Justice; Permanent Secretary/Accountant General; Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission.
Others are: Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Civil Service; Director of Budget; State Chairman, Joint Public Service Negotiating Council; Secretary, Joint Public Sector Negotiating Council; State Chairperson, Nigeria Labour Congress, Akwa Ibom State; State Chairman, Trade Union Congress; and State President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).
