In a bid to seek spiritual support for Nigeria’s ongoing battle with food insecurity, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has called on its staff to engage in a series of fasting and prayer sessions.
An internal memo dated June 11, 2025, signed by the ministry’s Director of Human Resource Management, Mrs Adedayo Modupe, was shared via the ministry’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday.

The directive urged personnel across various ranks to take part in the religious observance.

The notice extends the invitation to directors, deputy and assistant directors, value chain officers, and other employees, encouraging them to participate in a collective act of devotion titled “Divine Intervention for Protection and National Development.”
“This is to invite all staff of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to a solemn prayer session for God’s guidance and success in supporting the government’s efforts to achieve food security,” the circular read.
The prayer gatherings are set to be held at Conference Hall ‘B’ within the ministry’s headquarters in Area 11, Abuja, and will run from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. on three consecutive Mondays—June 16, 23, and 30.
Staff have also been instructed to observe fasting on the designated days.
A ministry source, who spoke under condition of anonymity, highlighted the urgency behind the spiritual initiative.
“We are facing significant hurdles in achieving our food security targets.

“While we are implementing various policies and programmes, we believe that divine guidance is equally crucial for us to overcome these challenges and ensure every Nigerian has access to sufficient and nutritious food,” the source said.
The move signals the ministry’s intent to combine policy with prayer as Nigeria grapples with rising food prices, widespread hunger, and agricultural setbacks.
