Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has called on members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to serve as agents of positive change in their host communities, urging them to leave behind enduring legacies of service and meaningful impact.
The governor delivered this charge on Friday during the swearing-in and official opening ceremony of the 2025 Batch B Stream I Orientation Programme, held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Cooperative and Empowerment, Adebayo Femi Ogungbangbe, Governor Adeleke encouraged the corps members to approach their service year with honour, purpose, and integrity.
Addressing the new corps members, the governor stated:
“My dear compatriots, I charge you to be good ambassadors of your families, institutions, and the NYSC. Be agents of positive change in your host communities and leave behind lasting legacies of service and impact.
As you have sworn to the Oath of Allegiance today, remember that you are stepping into a year filled with possibilities. Seize it with both hands and make Osun State, your state of origin, and Nigeria proud. Serve with honour, live with purpose, and leave a legacy of impact wherever you go.”

Governor Adeleke praised the NYSC as one of Nigeria’s most resilient institutions promoting national unity, youth engagement, and development. He noted that the Scheme has, over the years, successfully bridged ethnic, cultural, and social divides across the country.
“The NYSC Scheme stands as one of Nigeria’s most enduring platforms for promoting unity, youth engagement, and national development. Over the decades, it has consistently fostered collaboration, leadership, and service across the country,” he said.
“This Orientation Course marks the beginning of your national service journey. It is a time of mental and physical preparation, as well as an opportunity for self-discovery and purpose-driven engagement.”
Emphasising the core values of the NYSC – Selfless Service, Patriotism, Integrity, Efficiency, Commitment, and Teamwork – Adeleke urged corps members to uphold these ideals, asserting that integrity must remain their watchword.
He assured the participants of his administration’s full support, pledging to ensure a safe, respectful, and enabling environment for all corps members deployed to Osun State.
Furthermore, the governor called on employers across the public and private sectors to treat corps members as partners in progress, providing them with meaningful responsibilities and conducive working conditions.
In his welcome address, the Osun State NYSC Coordinator, Agbor Ndoma Obim, also echoed the call for integrity and discipline, warning corps members against the misuse of social media.
“In this digital age, social media has become a powerful tool for expression and engagement. However, I strongly caution you to use it responsibly. Avoid posting sensitive camp activities or internal protocols online under the guise of content creation,” he said.
“The camp is a regimented environment, and discipline remains a core principle of the NYSC Scheme. Sharing unauthorised content could breach security, violate the privacy of your colleagues, and undermine the integrity of the orientation programme.”
He urged all stakeholders to continue supporting the NYSC to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and proper deployment of corps members across the state.
A total of 1,044 corps members—comprising 771 males and 673 females—have been deployed to Osun State, while 829 corps members—398 males and 431 females—have been relocated from Lagos State to complete their orientation in Osun.
The ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment from both government and NYSC officials to work together in strengthening the values of national unity, purposeful service, and youth empowerment.
