Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Thursday, made headlines after purchasing all the puff-puff sold by a roadside vendor for ₦50,000 during a rally in Osogbo, before offering her employment as a chef at the Government House.
The incident occurred during an appreciation solidarity rally organised by Osun public servants, who trooped out in their thousands to commend the governor’s welfare initiatives since assuming office.
In a viral video from the event, Governor Adeleke, seated in a bus, beckoned to the female vendor and inquired about the cost of all her snacks. He then handed her a bundle of ₦50,000 to the cheers of onlookers. Excited members of the crowd rushed to collect the already-purchased puff-puff from the vendor’s plastic container.
Following the purchase, the governor invited the woman into his vehicle. During a brief conversation, one of his aides asked about her educational qualifications, to which she disclosed that she holds a Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE). When quizzed about her cooking skills, she listed some of the dishes she could prepare. Adeleke immediately instructed his aides to take her details for employment as a Government House chef.
Confirming the development, Commissioner II at the Osun State Civil Service Commission, Olaniyan Taofeek, shared the video on X (formerly Twitter), with the caption: “The moment Gov. Adeleke turned the life of a puff-puff seller into a Government House chef.”
Similarly, the Governor’s Special Assistant on Digital Media, Oni Gbenga Lawrence, corroborated the account, writing: “Moment Governor Ademola Adeleke turned the life of a puff-puff seller to Government Chef… not only ₦50k but he invited her into his car and employed her as chef in the Government House.”
The gesture has since attracted wide attention, with many hailing the governor for his benevolence.
