The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised Tinubu’s government for Nigeria’s 4th place in the 2026 Global Terrorism Index, citing failed security efforts.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the report index shows a serious security crisis across the country.
The statement read,
“Nigeria is now ranked the 4th most terrorism-affected country in the world. That is not an abstract statistic. It is a direct reflection of the failure of the Bola Tinubu-led APC government to secure the country.”
The ADC said attacks increased by 43 percent, from 120 in 2024 to 171 in 2025, with more civilians now affected.
The party also said Borno State recorded most of the violence, accounting for 67 percent of attacks and 72 percent of deaths.
It added that “civilians now make up 67 percent of those killed”, showing how exposed ordinary people have become.
According to the ADC, the report confirms what Nigerians already experience daily. The party said the situation points to a failure in governance, not just security challenges.
It also noted that armed groups like ISWAP and Boko Haram remain active, while new groups are emerging.
The ADC criticised the government’s response, saying leadership has not shown enough urgency during the crisis.
It stressed that insecurity is linked to weak governance, economic hardship, and instability, as stated in the report.
To address the problem, the party proposed three main solutions.
First, it called for better coordination among security agencies through a national intelligence system.
Second, it suggested decentralised policing to allow faster response at state and community levels.
Third, it recommended a shift from reacting to attacks to preventing them using intelligence and early warning systems.
The ADC said its plan aims to stop attacks before they happen and improve safety across Nigeria.
