The management of Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences, Eleyele, has confirmed that 75 of its students have successfully received financial support through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
The college’s Provost, Gbonjubola Owolabi, made the announcement during a meeting with the management staff on Friday at the college’s premises in Eleyele, Ibadan. The funds, she revealed, were received on Thursday, April 3, and they will help ease the financial burden on the students pursuing their education at the institution.
Owolabi expressed her gratitude for the initiative, highlighting that a total of 78 students had applied for the loan, and 75 of them were successful in securing the much-needed funds.
“This is to inform the college that we received the loan funds for 75 students yesterday (Thursday),” she said in a statement issued by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade.
She further lauded NELFUND for its support, stating, “Our college is grateful to NELFUND for this support to our students. The College also congratulates these 75 students.”
Owolabi also highlighted that the loan programme was designed to alleviate financial barriers, enabling students to continue their education without the added stress of unmet financial needs.
Owolabi explained that the initiative was an essential step in ensuring that students who genuinely needed financial assistance could continue their education without interruption.
She also noted that this strategic effort was aimed at reducing the burden of financial constraints on students and fostering a more inclusive academic environment.
The provost further shared that the beneficiaries of the loan would be invited to a meeting for the necessary documentation and to finalise the loan process for the 2025/2026 session. She noted that NELFUND had successfully paid the full fees for about 96% of the students who applied, describing the outcome as impressive.
In her closing remarks, Owolabi encouraged other students who had not yet applied for the NELFUND loan to do so, as the programme offered a valuable opportunity to ease the financial strain on their ongoing education.
She stated, “We urge other students to apply for the NELFUND loan, as this will greatly ease their educational pursuits.”
