The Association of Former Local Government Chairmen in Kano State has categorically denied a viral social media report claiming that its members endorsed Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the association’s chairman, Hon. Hassan Garban Kauye Farawa, described the report as “completely fabricated and mischievous.”
Farawa stressed that on the very day the purported endorsement meeting was alleged to have taken place in Abuja, the former chairmen were actually holding their routine monthly meeting in Kano.
“It is both surprising and laughable that anyone would claim we gathered in Abuja when photographs and attendance records clearly show we were in Kano,” he said.
He reminded party members that the APC operates a structured leadership hierarchy currently headed by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje as National Chairman, adding that only the party’s recognised organs have the authority to initiate or conclude candidate-selection processes.
Farawa condemned the spread of such “deliberate misinformation,” warning that it only sows confusion and disunity within the rank and file ahead of the crucial 2027 polls.
He therefore urged APC members in Kano and nationwide to disregard the report and remain focused on strengthening the party.
The denial follows similar rebuttals from two other Ganduje era groups former members of the Kano State House of Assembly and former commissioners who last week distanced themselves from identical claims of endorsing Senator Barau for the governorship ticket.
