The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Gombe State has announced that 1,268 Batch A, Stream I corps members have successfully completed their service year, earning commendation for their dedication and contributions to their host communities.
Speaking during a low-key passing-out ceremony held on Thursday at the NYSC zonal office in Gombe, the State Coordinator, Chinwe Nwachukwu, lauded the corps members for their commitment throughout the service year. She highlighted their active involvement in various community development initiatives, emphasizing the positive impact of their efforts.
“You have demonstrated resilience, dedication, and a commitment to national service. Your contributions to your host communities are commendable, and we are proud of your achievements,” Nwachukwu stated.
However, the coordinator revealed that 16 corps members are set to face disciplinary actions for violating NYSC regulations, underscoring the importance of adherence to the program’s code of conduct. Additionally, 21 corps members will be remobilized for failing to meet key obligations required during the service year.
Nwachukwu stressed that while the NYSC celebrates the successes of its participants, it remains committed to enforcing discipline and accountability. “The NYSC stands firm on its principles of discipline and integrity, which are essential to achieving the objectives of the scheme,” she added.
The ceremony, though understated, marked a significant milestone for the corps members as they prepare to transition into life beyond the NYSC program. Copies of Nwachukwu’s farewell speech, which encapsulated the achievements and challenges of the service year, were made available to journalists at the event.
The passing-out parade symbolized the culmination of a year of national service, with a mix of celebration and lessons for future batches.
