The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Medical Centre has praised Attack Against Asthma, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) for donating 79 inhalers to their health facility.
According to the founder of the NGO, Temitope Omosebi, the initiative aims to improve asthma care, promote asthma awareness, and reduce asthma-related mortality in Nigeria.
In a document shared recently with New Daily Prime, it was noted that the donation would be used responsibly for eligible students.
“Your generosity is deeply appreciated and reflects a commendable commitment to the well-being of young people in our academic community.
“We are truly grateful for your thoughtful contribution, which will be distributed free of charge to asthmatic students of the University who are in need of this essential medication,” the statement read.
“Your support will significantly enhance the quality of care we provide and ensure that students managing asthma have better access to the treatment they require.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), asthma is a major non-communicable disease (NCD), affecting both children and adults, and is the most common chronic disease among children.
In 2020, WHO estimated that approximately 8,192 asthma-related deaths were recorded in Nigeria. The health organisation noted that over 250 million people live with asthma, while 450,000 deaths are recorded annually.
A total of 600 inhalers have been donated since the creation of the NGO in 2024, and about five Nigerian universities, three pre-tertiary schools, and an orphanage are said to have received free inhalers.
