The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) has dismissed a Locum Radiographer for negligence, which led to the death of a patient.
The termination was announced in a statement issued yesterday, signed by Maria Maureen Bassey, Director of Administration and Secretary to the Board of Management.
The radiographer, whose identity has been withheld, was found to have accidentally taken the key to the Accident and Emergency x-ray room, and the colleague who took over failed to contact him.
This oversight contributed to the death of a patient.

In response to the incident, UCTH management terminated the radiographer’s appointment and held all involved parties accountable for the tragedy.
The dismissal letter read, in part: “This is to inform you that your services as a Locum Radiographer at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital are no longer required. Consequently, your appointment is terminated with immediate effect.
“You are requested to return all hospital property in your possession to the Head of the Department of Radiology. The management wishes you the best in your future endeavours.”
