The Oyo State Police Command says its intensified stop-and-search operations along major highways have begun to yield results, following the arrest of a cleric found with items believed to be human flesh.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, the suspect, identified as Alfa Basiru, was apprehended during a routine check by the Federal Highway Patrol team at the Ibadan Toll Gate section of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
He was said to have been travelling in a Lagos-bound commercial bus when the suspicious materials were discovered.

The matter has since been transferred to the homicide unit of the Criminal Investigation Department at Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further inquiry.
In a related development, the police also recovered a Toyota Camry reportedly abandoned by its driver after operatives flagged it down for inspection. Osifeso explained that the driver bolted during the search, leaving the vehicle behind.
The car is now in police custody, and members of the public who may have legitimate claims to it have been advised to present valid ownership documents at the Command headquarters.
However, the spokesperson stressed that the operations were part of deliberate efforts to secure highways, safeguard residents, and reassure travellers across Oyo State that security agencies remain proactive against criminal activities.
