Ondo State has expanded its healthcare capacity with the commissioning of a third medical oxygen plant, donated by the Federal Government in partnership with Global Funds.
The new Pressure Swing Absorption (PSA) facility, located at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, will serve the central senatorial district.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the inauguration, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to making quality healthcare a priority.
He described good health as a driver of economic development and assured that government is working to adequately fund health institutions across the state.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, in his remarks, thanked the Federal Government, Global Funds, and the Ministry of Health, urging proper maintenance of the facility.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Awolowo Ajaka, said the plant complements existing ones at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, and Okitipupa, ending the era when hospitals travelled to Lagos for oxygen supply.
He assured that patients would no longer die from lack of oxygen.
Special Adviser on Health, Prof. Michael Odimayo, described the project as part of wider reforms, citing the new Pharma-grade warehouse, ongoing work at the FUTA Teaching Hospital, and recruitment of medical staff.
Representatives of the Ministry of Health and NACA, Mr. Ibeke Francis and Barr. Adeolu Aiyewumi, stressed the need for professional handling and maintenance, while the Hospitals’ Management Board pledged to ensure the plant benefits residents.
