The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig Gen Mohamed Marwa, has disclosed that the agency intercepted a total of 302.202kg of assorted illicit substances destined for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) within the last four years.
Marwa made this known when he received the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Salem Saeed Musabbeh Alshamsi, who paid a courtesy visit to the agency’s national headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
He noted that the feat reflects NDLEA’s sustained vigilance and growing international collaboration aimed at curbing transnational drug trafficking.
While acknowledging its partnership with leading drug agencies across the world, Marwa assured that the agency welcomes deeper cooperation with the UAE to tackle the global drug scourge.

The NDLEA boss expressed appreciation to the envoy for his country’s support and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to building a united front against illicit drug trade and abuse.
He also acknowledged the steady growth in bilateral relations between Nigeria and the UAE, particularly in trade and security cooperation, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In his remarks, Ambassador Alshamsi commended Marwa for what he described as excellent leadership and operational successes in Nigeria’s anti-drug campaign.
He lauded NDLEA’s efforts in intercepting narcotics destined for the UAE, describing the agency’s work as “commendable and worthy of deeper collaboration.”
“We follow all the good work that you’ve been doing, especially all the drugs you’re seizing and blocking from coming to the UAE. We’re so proud of your achievements, and that’s why we’re here to deepen our cooperation with your agency,” the envoy stated.
The Ambassador also extended an invitation to Marwa to visit his counterparts in the UAE and the Dubai Police leadership for further engagements, expressing readiness to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the NDLEA to enhance intelligence sharing and operational synergy.
Marwa welcomed the proposal, assuring that NDLEA remains open to international partnerships aimed at dismantling global drug networks and safeguarding public health and security.
