Following the passing of the bill into law,overnor Ahmed Ododo has endorsed the upgrade of Okene Reference Hospital to Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Teaching Hospital.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, in Lokoja today told journalists about the development.
According to Fanwo, this development aligns with the National Universities Commission’s(NUC) approval of full-time medical courses to ensure sustainability.
The degrees to be obtained include the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme, among others.
Fanwo added that the rigorous teamwork between key parties in the state to achieve this initiative.
The significant stakeholders include the university, the State Ministry of Health, and the State Ministry of Education.
“We commend the State House of Assembly for passing the bill, which has now been signed into law by Governor Ododo,” Fanwo noted.
Prioritising the healthcare sector, he noted that CUSTECH is equipped with world-class medical facilities.
He further emphasised that health workers will be trained for better services and sustainability
While expressing gratitude to the State House Assembly for their efforts, he described the institution as a significant milestone while reaffirming the government’s commitment to healthcare and education.
“With the bill now law, CUSTECH is poised to effectively commence its MBBS program, the document revealed.
